The 50th Convention of the Diocese of Alaska at St. Matthew’s, Fairbanks, came to a close Saturday evening October 4 with much joy, singing, and a wonderful dinner of moose and caribou.
St. Matthew’s hospitality for the 4 days of Convention, including Clergy Conference, was extraordinary. Not only did they provide transportation services but 3 full meals a day for some 100 delegates and visitors. I extend my warmest expressions of gratitude to all the volunteers who contributed to our comfort and care. Many say our Diocesan Conventions are like a family reunion, and St. Matthew’s certainly made us feel at home.
It was a delight to ordain Jeanette Dementi and Judy Gau as Deacons in the Episcopal Church. The celebration of their ordination set the tone for the entire weekend.
We were also blessed by the presence of bishop Carol Gallagher who inspired us with her keynote address and blessed us with her prayers..
Of course, the important work of Convention is the election of individuals to Diocesan Offices and the adoption of the Diocesan Budget. A full list of the results of the elections, the resolutions adopted by Convention, and the budget will be available on the Diocesan Website soon.
There was no Balloon Drop at the conclusion of Convention. Instead, it was abundantly clear that the Holy Spirit flooded the entire weekend with joy from above. With a grateful heart I give thanks for all these gifts so generously bestowed by God upon this Diocese.
