“Now among those who went up to worship at the festival were some Greeks. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and said to him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
Lent is a season for us to seek Jesus. To see him. But not just as some “other” as one might seek to see a pop star or a famous actor. Lent is a season for us to seek to see Jesus in ourselves. And, if that is a difficult task, to honestly, boldly, and hopefully confront those things that shroud the person of Jesus from being seen in us.
Lent is an invitation to repent and turn to the Lord that we might be fully in Him and He in us–Jesus seen in our lives and in our faces.
I pray that this Lenten Season, especially as it draws closer to Holy Week and Easter, will draw us more and more to becoming the very image and presence of Jesus in this world—a Church that actually LOOKS LIKE JESUS. A people where someone could see Jesus.
Not an easy task. Jesus assures us that it requires dying to the things that shroud His way of Love and Life in us. These must fall to earth like a seed so that new life for us in Him may be born.
So we pray:
“Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found: through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.” Amen
